Me and Bekele

I got home from work just before five and Sarah was almost immediately kicking me out the door for my run. She had to work this evening, so this was my only chance to run. I probably didn't want to go that instant, but I knew it would be nice to get the run out of the way. Sarah has been very supportive of my running ever since we met, and I probably don't thank her enough (there, I think I just did?). Many days she is asking me when I'm going to be running and encouraging me to get out there.

Out the door, I headed south along the highway, running an easy 4K (4:45K) on the roads and ending my run with another 4K on the grass of the soccer pitch. I was aiming for my run to end up being about half on the turf for the good of my foot. It wasn't the most memorable run, but it was in the books. Once home, I iced my foot, trying to prevent it from flaring up again.

Tomorrow in Rome, as part of the Golden League series, there's going to be a great 5K matchup between Bekele, Songok, and Shaheen. I'd put my money on Bekele, but I suppose that's why they actually have the race........ and Songok out kicked Bekele June 2 in Oslo. Bekele's real strength is in the 10K, where he truly is dominant. If you ever want to see what Steve Ovett called an "amazing human performance", watch the 2004 Olympic final . Especially the last K of the race!
