An hour and a half after dinner I was out the door for an evening run. I probably shouldn't have had that after dinner coffee and chocolate, and my hunch was correct. My stomach took a bit of time to settle down during my run. It was more comfortable running at this hour with the sun setting, as I was planning a modified/shortened interval session at the track. With timing that can only be called impeccable, I was walking towards the highway, when I saw Greg T. running north at the bottom of my street. I hollered out and joined him on his way towards home. I only ran about 3K with him and then turned back for the track, as I didn't want to spend too much time on the pavement. So having warmed up for about 5K, I did 4X400m on the grass, just inside the track, followed by 4X~100m strides in the middle of the soccer pitch, concentrating on my form and turnover on the strides. My 400m repeats were faster than my 5K race pace and were all in the range of ~1:19. They were a bit tough, but they were short, and I left these 400m intervals feeling like I could do more. The 100m strides I enjoyed, as they felt like the strawberry on top of the shortcake. So a relatively short workout total of 8K for the day.
What has the makings of a mini-tragedy has entered my running life. My precious Polar watch, which is a heart rate monitor, and was not cheap, appears to be at least temporarily missing. I've turned the house over (as has my wife) looking for it and it has not yet turned up. This is unusual. I'm pretty careful with my stuff, but this has been a bad week for misplacing that "stuff". Also missing: a jump drive. I'm praying it will show up soon. I either have gremlins residing with me or a toddler? Hmmm...........
