Summer is gone. The nip in the air this morning, surely tells the tale. During my run, it crossed my mind that I'd be wearing gloves soon on my runs. My hands easily get cold, so I usually consider gloves earlier than most.
I took Audrey for a light jog in the stroller for about 2K before handing her off at home and heading out for today's workout. I ran south along the highway and then up Joyce ave. to the track which was a little over 3K. Once at the track I ran 5k at tempo pace. I ran the first k in 3:50 and my legs felt fresh, since I didn't run at all yesterday. With the slightly quick start, I did slow for the last 4k and finished in 19:33 which was a few seconds (8 to be precise) slower than I wanted for this run. Not to quibble too much, the 5K felt relatively easy. I finished up with 6X 100m striders on the grass field and then made my way home with a total of 11K in my back pocket.
From Runner's World and the Globe and Mail:
As of today, 60-year-old dentist Rick Rayman will have run at least three miles every consecutive day for 27 years and 279 days, a new Canadian record. But he notes ruefully, "there are about 37 Americans who have run more (consecutive days) than I have." That's okay, he's not done yet. Rayman also likes to race often, and the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on September 24 will be his 165th marathon.
