Saturday is usually a rest day for me, but because I took Thursday off, I couldn't take another one. Today was an unusual treat, because Sarah and I both headed to Sunset park sans daughter, for a run with the Saturday run group organized by Lorne. Gran came over and minded the house for a while, while Sarah and I arrived late (of course, Sarah's fault). There were lots of kids, and a few adults, which made for a fun time -- and a freebie power aide to boot!
After a 2K warmup we ended up doing 4X150m at approx. my R pace, which was on a slight uphill on the field, plus 4X300m on a slight downhill. There was about a 1:30 rest between each, with a walk from the end of the 150m to the 300m start. Only ~3Km of running today, albeit with about 1800m at a brisk pace.
Lorne has laid out a perfect place to run these reps, with the soft surface, and the longer downhill which assists leg turnover. I'll definitely consider driving up to Sunset to do a rep. work in the future, it's only 10 min. away and the grass is so forgiving on the joints as compared to the track. There was a team obstacle course to close the session, which provided the over 35-year club a challenge, especially when crawling under two pegs with tape strung across. The kids loved it though, and I'm proud to say my team won. Though Sarah looked good negotiating the course--her team lost......
