A Willing 10K

The family drove to Willingdon Beach today, so Audrey could play at the playground and I'd begin my run from there. With our little girl occupied with the playground toys, dad got a kiss, and then skittered away down the beach trail. I ran into the Townsite, did a loop, and made my way back home. An easy run of about 10k at what I think was probably 4:45/k pace. It was cool standing in the shade of the trees, but once I got moving, it really was nice running weather. Following the run I tried some new stretches as outlined in the new running book I'm reading. Being Mr. Inflexible (symbolism?) the stretches are going to take a bit of getting used to, but they're just different ways to isolate the major running muscles post exercise. I think I'll go stretch out on the couch now......

Here's a follow up to yesterday's link describing Mottram's win over Bekele. It's got a great race description. Mottram is understandably ecstatic with the victory and explains that he would have been satisfied with second place. His race plan: "The plan was just to hang on and unleash hell with 950 to go". Just click on the pic for the story:

I've created a monster with the Beck link! I really enjoyed that book. John Kellog's (sp?) chapter is great, and the whole volume is full of good info.
