During this weekend where we celebrate Thanksgiving here in Canada, I want to look at thanksgiving from a slightly different perspective, from a runner's perspective. We often can take it for granted when we head out for our runs and workouts that our bodies will, for the most part, respond in doing what we ask them to do. We often forget the unconsious act of sucking in a breath of air for our working muscles. We enter races and special event runs; toeing the line, with the intent on training, having fun, and even racing. There are many who can't run for various reasons; and for some, just taking a breath doing everyday things is a battle.
I'm thinking of my friend Joey, who lives in Victoria and suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Joey is full of life, and is even getting married this month to Kirstin! Not much seems to stop him, but CF is trying to. Joey needs a lung transplant and I encourage you to check out their web site, Cystic Fibrosis Sucks. Kirstin and Joey's expenses are increasing, and this is something I choose to support. Joey needs to move to Toronto where he'll be on a wait list and his chances at a successful transplant are increased just by the shear number of them performed there. You don't have to support this cause, but support something!
On this weekend of Thanksgiving, I'll be toeing the line in Victoria, and giving thanks that I have the privilege to run.

That is fantastic Lawrence!
Being able to breathe easily is so natural for most of us that we take it for granted. I will also be thinking of Joey and all those other people who are affected by CF when I run on Saturday.
Happy running!
Thanks Lawrence, for reminding us of what is "real". Joey's determination and positive attitude is a marathon..... The two best "elite runners" for "Life" that I know are Kirstin (with an i) and Joey!!!
Hey there!
Good to have you in Vic!!
I'll be thinking of Joey and Kirst tomorrow too!
Rock on and don't look back!!
Remember pain is temporary........
