Tie one on

While the family was having their afternoon nap, I made the most of it by running to the track for my workout. It's a beautiful day on the left coast and perfect temperatures for a run. I ran a 1K warmup, followed by 1K reps with an alternating 200m/400m jog between (7.4K total) at my intended 1/2 marathon pace this Sunday. Why 7.4K? On my second to last repetition my shoelace came undone, upsetting my rhythm, so I decided to abandon that one. I was planning on doing 8K, but I thought 7.4K was close enough. Note to self: make sure shoes are tied well on Sunday.

It was a good run. At one point during the run I got thinking about what Lorne said to me recently about my tempo pace. Following this weekend, I'm going to seriously look at giving it a boost. Especially during cruise intervals, where I think the introduction of a faster pace can be done (I mean the intended workout completed), and adapted to more quickly, than a boost to an extended steady state run. I'm going to seek Lorne out tomorrow and have a chat in person about this and a few other things. He's a great guy to bounce ideas off and always gives solid training advice.

In the worst situation on Sunday, you may have a bad patch. Remember that if it happens,it is only momentary. Allow it to happen. At this point in your running career, even when you are going "poorly," you are still moving along at a good pace and will only lose seconds over your total event time.

Make sure that you start in the right row. Focus entirely on your own experience, but absorb the positive energy of the other athletes and the spectators and your family.

Do a great run because you can! Lot's of people can't.

Run like the wind Lawrence.
