Falling down on the tour de trail

Patrick and I hooked up early this morning to run from the gym. Seeing that he wore himself out yesterday with his hard run, I figured it would be easier to keep tabs on him with an easy run. I figured wrong. Patrick ran the exact pace we discussed, so I can't fault him. It was just a titch quicker than usual, I'd guess a 4:35/k (7:25-30/mile). We ran the "Tour de Trail", which has a consistent uphill for the first half, and Patrick took it out at this pace. It felt tough, but I was glad we did it. I did take a spill on the trail as we neared West Lake, landing on my right side and forearm. The culprit was a slippery root which sprung up from its lurking abode drawing blood on my forearm. Patrick turned around and said I looked like I was performing a mid air ninja kick. I was none the worse for wear and we ended up running for 1:05:00.

Strength exercises followed immediately afterward, and I was concentrating on my lower half. I did do the bench press for the first time in a couple of years, and lifted an astonishing amount of weight (65lbs) several times. I'm hoping these strength sessions will see some improvement to my right leg....... well, maybe not the bench press....

Patty and I went to our new Starbucks after throwing around the heavy plates, where he received the good news on his cell that he's going to the World Duathlon Championships this coming May in Hungary. I don't think he'll be running with this old man with a penchant for falling down much longer, he's got some serious training to attend to come January.

I really appreciate our runs, in a lot of different ways our runs play a big part in my preparations for Worlds. So thank you LB

Also, only the cool cats fall when running, remember this:

"Tripping along
It was a fairly uneventful run, excepting the moment Patrick tripped on a rock that jumped out at him on the beach trail. He went down pretty fast, but not very hard; at that moment he didn't look much like the runner that's set to crack a sub 33 min 10K soon."

Chicks do love scars. Why do you think I am with "Coach?"

Falling down is the true test of the reflexes. How quickly you get back up is the secret.
