Earlier this morning the family drove for a coffee at the local shop, and on the way, we drove by the track to see what sort of condition it was in. Lo and behold, someone had taken the time to clear lane 1 by shovelling the snow away. This was great, as I thought I could do my scheduled run here later after lunch.
After lunch, I made my way to the track, but within moments I realized this wasn't going to work. There were several patches of ice all over the cleared lane. There was no running happening here today. I re-grouped and headed toward the gym, but I decided to stay off the dreadmill and run outside. I decided to mimic my tempo run on the cleared roads by running on the nearby, flatish, and well-cleared road of Bowness Ave. This turned out to work well, as Bowness is a little more than 1k long (1.27K using G-maps). I ran to my watch and effort level, without a precise distance covered -- a nice intuitive session. I was pretty happy with my effort level and felt good during the run, though my left calf had some soreness later. It seems to be fine now. I think this is an effort and improvisation Coach would approve of.
