Sidney Flashback

Here is one of the great photos from the 2000 Sidney Olympic games. It was the greatest 10k final ever and perhaps one of the greatest 10k races of all time. I love this photo, as it shows the absolute determination of both Gebreselassie and Tergat during the final few meters. The pain etched on Tergat's face is palpable. You can view their final 100m here. I've admired these two runners for some time, as much for their positive attitudes to running and life as their running exploits. Following the race they openly congratulate each other, and have often spoken positively of their great rivalry. These two are true champions and sportmen.

With limited time to run today, I only squeeked out a 30min run. At ~4:45/K pace it was a solid 6K. Too short; but, obligations got in the way, and I did a poor job of planning my day. I ran during the heat of the day, and probably the hottest temperatures I've run in thus far this year. Actually, it wasn't that hot-- 24deg/C--according to my car thermometer. It's expected to get up to 30-35deg/C in the next few days! I usually avoid running in the heat, as I will make a point of running in the mornings or evenings instead, or on a treadmill indoors during really hot days. So a measly 6K today, which is the minimum distance I like to run. I believe it's not worth putting on running gear/showering/stretching for a total exercise time of less than 30'. I'll be shooting for more tomorrow.
