A tip or two

I joined the cross country crowd today at the XC course after picking up Stephanie. We arrived a couple minutes late and joined up with the group after a couple k warming up. I made it an easy day today and ran a total of about 9K. No watch going, and no real concern about pace.

The one nugget of running advice/info I got today was when Graham C. gave some advice to the kids about uphill running and he mentioned some things I had never given any thought to. In particular: the backward motion of the arm swing during uphill running is what drives you up the hill. This made me go hmmm.......never thought about that before. Following the run, a group of us went down to the ocean and waded in to chill our legs. I've never done this before following a run and it was great! It's definitely something I am going to incorporate, particularly on my runs of 20K or more. All in all, a nice recovery day with some great tips.

Here's a controversial running article that condemns the newbie marathoner. Running With Slowpokes --How sluggish newbies ruined the marathon.

Lance Armstrong vs. The NYC marathon. Lance can't seem to decide whether he wants to finish in the middle of the pack or go for a sub 3 hr. marathon. He's going to be on the cover of next month's Runner's World, and he's a competetive guy; there's a lot of expectations that he is supposed to do well. Click here for the story.
