Joyous hurt

A few days ago, after my last treadmill run, I received a really articulate email from Coach. It helped me in my run today, especially when the going was getting tough. I kept thinking of "running joyously". I even cracked a smile while I was on my third repeat, when the discomfort was creeping into my arms and shoulders. Today's run was joyous hurt.

This is an interesting idea. A friend of mine in college mentioned this in passing during a run, and it has stuck with me ever since. "Just smile. No matter how bad you're hurting, you will feel better, even if you fake it."

Crazy, it actually works.
